B&W negative copied in 1990 from official albums then held at Grangemouth refinery.
"Mond" coal gas production plant, probably at Deans oil works. When operating with good quality shale, the "Pumpherston" design of retort produced sufficient permanent gas from retorting the shale to burn in the space between the retort vessels and so heat the shale to a sufficient temperature. When poorer quality shale was used however, additional supplies of gas had to be manufactured to fuel the retorts. See also LVSAV2019.014
