B&W negative copied in 1990 from official albums then held at Grangemouth refinery.

This detailed side view of a "Pumpherston" or "Bryson" style retort shows the large hopper at the top to hold up to 6 hours supply of shale and below this the main to carry away the hot vapours produced by retorting that were condensed to yield oil and ammonia.
