Description

Candlemaking house in Broxburn This picture, apparently taken in the 1950's, shows candle making frames at Broxburn. Preheated wax was poured from the wax bucket, shown beside the frames, into a tray above the machine connecting to a series of tin/pewter moulds. Water is used to cool the moulds and then the solid candles are pushed out of the moulds by a piston. The moulds are then reheated and the next batch are cast. The continuous wick is cut after every second batch.
