Description

Digital copy of John Kean Loch and Anne Loch (nee Lally) dated 02/06/1932. John Kean Loch was born 10/07/1884 in Pumpherston and worked as a shale miner circa 1892 - circa 1922. From circa 1922 to 1930 he worked as a sales rep in Aberdeen for Scottish Oils before moving to 95 Dundee Street, Edinburgh. John Kean Loch was the grandfather of the donor and born on 10/07/1884 in Pumpherston. His birth certificate states his place of birth as Pumpherston Oil Works. His father, John Loch, was a bricklayer at Pumpherston Oil Works until circa 1886. John Kean Loch started work for Scottish Oils Ltd as a miner in circa 1898 until circa 1922. He was active in the trade union movement and continued to work for Scottish Oils Ltd as a sales rep in Aberdeen and moved to Edinburgh in circa 1930. Although he was a cousin of Sir William Fraser, 1st Baron Strathalmond, John Kean Loch chose not to have a relationship with that side of the family. His grand daughter believes that this may have something to do with his active involvement in the trade union.
