Description

Digital copy of photograph of a group of miners at Joadja Creek in Australia. 3rd from the left in the back row is William Dyer, who was a shale miner from West Lothian who went to Australia in circa 1885. His brother John is also in this picture, but donor is unsure as to which one he is. William Dyer (born circa 1850s) moved to Australia in his 30s c.1885) to work at shale mine in Joadja Creek. Returned to Scotland and continued to work in the Scottish Shale industry. Donor is William Dyers granddaughter. William Dyer also appears in a reference collection image R10-00199 and is in the far left, sitting in the front row.
