SHALE OIL MANAGER'S DEATH.

The death took place on Sunday night in an Edinburgh nursing home of James Maxwell, manager of Addiewell Oil Works. Mr Maxwell had been associated with the Scottish oil industry nearly all his life. He was for many years assistant manager at Oakbank Oil Works. At a later date he was made assistant manager at Addiewell, and subsequently was promoted manager.

He was a Justice of Peace for Midlothian, and for a number years represented the Addiewell division on the County Council. Prior to the setting of the Education Authority he was chairman of West Calder School Board. A keen Burns enthusiast, he was president of West Calder Burns Club.

Mr. Maxwell was 78 years of age. His wife predeceased him several years ago, and he leaves a family of one son and two daughters, a son having been killed in the Great War.
