OBITUARY

It was with deep regret that the village learned last Wednesday of the sudden death of Mr John McTeirnan (sic), 37 Abercorn Place, at the age of 61. He was a popular and respected member of the community and was one of the founders of the local O.A.P. Association, of which he was secretary. His work for the Association was greatly appreciated by the members of the organisation and by the pensioners, all of whom knew how dear he held to his heart the interests of the old people. Mr McTiernan was for many years employed in the shale industry. He was for a long time engineman at Glendevon Mine and at No. 5 Mine, Faucheldean, and latterly employed at Whitequarries Mine. On the Saturday prior to his death Mr McTiernan attended the O.A.P. outing to Ayr and seemed to be in his usual good spirits. His first consideration that day was the welfare of the old folks. He will be much missed in the village.
