Description

A collection of 113 glass lantern slides illustrating occupational skin diseases among paraffin workers.

The lantern slides, presumably used in lectures, include images of skin diseases and cancers among parffin workers, laboratory animal studies, histological sections, illustrations of work processes, diagrams of processes, and tables of results. They probably date to about 1922 and relate to the work of Dr. Alexander Scott who was employed by the Scottish Shale Oil Industry via an agreement with the Home Office (Factory division) to investigate the occurance and causes of paraffin dermatosis in shale oil workers. Slides also refer to the work of Professor Archibald Leitch of the Institute of Cancer Research, London. See also LVSAV2017.053 and LVSAV2017.054. Only a small number are previewed here, as many show graphic and intimate images of disease.
