Eight houses, which like nearby Starlaw Rows were probably constructed to house those employed at Boghall Oil Works and associated Starlaw Mine. Like the Starlaw Rows, the Stable Rows lay empty for considerable periods following closure of the Boghall oil works in c.1880, and changed ownership on a number of occassions as new shale works were opened in the area.
